Glencairn has secured planning for a highly innovative townhouse development at Liberton Brae, a sought-after secluded area of Edinburgh overlooking the Royal Observatory and Liberton Tower.
The development of three two storey, four bedroom townhouses are going to be a contemporary interpretation of an existing agricultural barn within a collection of converted steading buildings next to a B-listed 19th century farmhouse.
Unique design aspects include a standing seam metal roof, vertical timber cladding and a wrapping stone wall base which makes use of existing stone at the site. A highlight interior feature will be a central fully glazed void courtyard which cuts through the roof and both floor levels ensuring maximum natural light and ventilation throughout.
A covered entrance hallway will extend past the internal courtyard to the first floor with open plan living area. At ground level, two spacious bedrooms open onto the courtyard with another two bedrooms plus additional smaller private bedroom courtyard that has framed views through a stone wall. Living and dining areas on the first floor benefit from a vaulted ceiling and floor to ceiling glazing which will open out onto an outside partially covered terrace. Work is due to commence on site this summer with prices starting at £575,000.
